Protecting Our Girls and Renewing Our Minds

Gender Identity and Expression are causing quite a storm – no surprises there. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself, so let’s start at the beginning. In Genesis 1:27, we read, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (NIV84) Jesus quotes from Genesis in the Gospels as in Mark 10:6, “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’”
Biology and science confirm what the Bible identifies regarding genders/sexes – only two exist. This binary reality is important because all of nature (animal and plant life) reproduces itself by joining a male and female according to its kind. For any species to survive, they need to produce life, and life can only happen by the “old-fashioned way” – one man and one woman. No other “genders” have ever existed, nor do they now.
Unsurprisingly, a portion of LGBTQ-identifying adults and compliant “cis” people are the drivers of this gender identity (GI) craze toward our children. “Craze” is defined as “an activity, object, or idea that is extremely popular, usually for a short time.”1 Let us hope this is for a short time. In the meantime, we are witnessing a societal “mania” where adults are “obsessed” with the demands that everyone repeats the lies that boys can be girls and that there are dozens of “genders.” Moreover, you must affirm that you can be whatever gender you feel and that medically, chemically, and surgically mutilating the bodies of minors is actually “healthcare.”
Alarmingly, our taxpayer-funded state public schools have linked arms with this small sexually-focused minority in their pursuit to sexualize children. The “Comprehensive Sexual Education” (CSE) in our public schools indoctrinates our children using sexual images and themes and by explaining adult-themed acts that would be cause for the arrest of anyone outside of the classroom if they showed a minor the same material.
Furthermore, any school that refuses to allow biological boys in girls’ sports, physical education classes, and locker rooms risks losing state funds. Not to be outdone, last year, Gov. Inslee signed into law a bill that provides strategic wording that opens the door for the state or DCYF to take custody of a gender-confused child from their non-affirming parents. Senate Bill 5599 redefines “abuse and neglect” to include those parents who do not “affirm” their child’s chosen gender identity or expression.2
The following wording from the actual bill is not by accident, and please take note of the key phrases “compelling reasons; not limited to; and protected health care services:”
“If there are compelling reasons not to notify the parents, the shelter or organization is to contact DCYF instead. Compelling reasons include, but are not limited to, circumstances that indicate notifying the parent or legal guardian will subject the minor to abuse or neglect…Compelling reasons include when a minor is seeking or receiving protected health care services.”3 “Protected health care services” include the complete list of chemical and surgical procedures that physically transition a minor to the opposite gender.
Everything I have just stated is found in the Washington State Schools Policy 3211P (which has been mandated by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, OSPI) and parallels the gender identity policies of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), which controls all public school sports throughout the state (Handbook, 18.16.0, “Gender Identity”).
If your school does not comply with the WIAA, your school’s athletes cannot compete with other schools, and athletes may lose out on potential sports scholarships. They claim that the girls can choose not to participate in an event with a bio-boy, but why should they be the ones making a stand for observable biological truth while their educated educators sit on the sidelines in fear of losing state funding for violating an unjust and immoral law?
How many more stories of girls being traumatized in their locker rooms and restrooms before we say, “Enough of the madness!”? How many more of our daughters and granddaughters have to lose out on the sports awards they worked so hard for simply because a mediocre boy athlete is struggling with accepting his body?
We have all heard the driving fear-based narrative: “Would you rather have a living trans-daughter or a dead son?” As if the only hope for mentally ill minors is to keep them in their confusion and delusion. However, the following peer-reviewed studies reveal the overwhelming role mental illness and child sexual assault play in the lives of those struggling with transgender feelings.
The UCLA School of Law Williams Institute gathered data from multiple sources and found some revealing and disturbing data. Here are some of the most prominent findings:4
Almost half of all transgender people have suffered physical and sexual abuse (44 & 45%). That number goes to 75% when referring to emotional abuse. Four out of ten suffer from “Severe Mental Illness,” and 81% admit to suicidal ideation, which is seven times higher than the rest of the population. Almost half of these actually attempt suicide.
Some blame “bullying” for this troubling data, but the details do not support that as a significant factor. These depressed people, confused by indoctrination and vulnerable due to abuse, need our help, not our empty “gender-affirming” mantras and medicalization that only deepen their depression, intensify their confusion, and multiply their risk for suicide. These people do not need a new body but a new/renewed mind.
In Romans 12:2, the Apostle Paul writes, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” The lies that have taken root through the abuses of the past, dysfunctional homes/parents, or other negative influencers have twisted your thinking and must be replaced with God’s Truth.
The evidence is in: their body is not the problem – it is in their mind. I write that with compassion and hope for those struggling with these issues. The journey may be longer than hoped, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel: a former transgender person, Dr. Linda A. Seiler, PhD spoke recently at a conference about her 11-year journey and the multi-faceted issue of gender identity. Her book “Transformation – A Former Transgender Responds to LGBTQ” is an encouraging account of that journey and much more. Her dissertation for her PhD was about 30 case studies of men and women who successfully navigated the journey from the confusion of transgenderism to wholeness as the person they were born to be.
For anyone struggling with same-sex attraction, gender dysphoria, or suicide, God is not your enemy, nor has He abandoned you. As I write this, I pray that you find the hope, experience the mercy, and see the restoration found only in knowing and trusting Jesus Christ.
